LANSING – Three in a row! No. 11 Mid Michigan College won its third consecutive MCCAA Women's Basketball Championship with a 58-49 victory over host and 15th ranked Lansing Community College on Saturday (March 1). The MCCAA Championship (formerly known as the State Championship) followed the Lakers' third Northern Conference title in as many seasons.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Lakers outscored the Stars by a 25-5 margin in the second to take a commanding 43-21 lead into the halftime break. The script flipped in the third quarter as the Stars held the Lakers to three points in the frame to get to within seven entering the fourth, 46-39.
The Stars got to within one possession in the latter stages of the contest, but the Lakers made plays down the stretch to hold off the rally and secure their latest MCCAA title.
