2026 CHARLIE CHANTER ALL-SPORTS TROPHY WINNER
LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Another stellar year, another Charlie Chanter All-Sports Trophy for Lansing Community College! The Stars athletic department has secured back-to-back Charlie Chanter All-Sport Trophy victories, bringing the school’s record-breaking total to 21 following a balanced performance across the 2025-26 athletics season.
The Stars secured this year's Charlie Chanter All-Sports crown via the slimmest of margins with a point average of 87.79, finishing just ahead of Mid Michigan College who chimed in at 87.36. Grand Rapids Community College was third, while Macomb Community College finished fourth and Southwestern Michigan College rounded out the top five.
For Lansing, the fall sports season got off to another strong start with the men’s cross country team winning the NJCAA Division II National Championship following their Region 12, MCCAA and Western Conference Championships. The women’s cross country team finished second in the MCCAA Western Conference race. On the court, the women’s volleyball team finished in a third place tie to make their latest postseason appearance.
The winter sports season saw both basketball teams win MCCAA Western Conference Championships as the women won outright in back-to-back seasons after their second consecutive unblemished league campaign, while the men finished as conference co-champions. Both Stars teams made impressive runs at their respective NJCAA National Championship Tournaments with the women’s team winning the consolation bracket with a 3-1 record and the men taking home seventh place after posting a 4-1 mark.
In the spring, the Stars baseball team finished conference play in second place while the softball team checked in third. Both teams qualified for NJCAA Region 12 postseason play.
The Charlie Chanter All-Sports Trophy, initiated in 1958, honors the team with the best average of finishes across their sports. Teams accumulate points based on their performance in each sport, with champions receiving 100 points and subsequent teams earning lower point totals relative to the number of teams in the conference/sport. Bonus points are awarded for winning or finishing as runners-up in MCCAA Championships or MCCAA sports. The final point totals are divided by the number of sports to determine the winner.
Charlie Chanter, the esteemed Executive Secretary of the MCCAA, dedicated 42 years to the association and played a pivotal role in refining the process of awarding the All-Sports Trophy. Additionally, he served as the MCCAA golf chair for many years, leaving an indelible mark on the association's sporting legacy. Chanter's contributions were invaluable, and his passing in 2019 marked the end of an era in MCCAA history.
