Dick Shilts Male Student Athlete of the Year
2023 DICK SHILTS MALE-STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
SHANE JUDAY, LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE, BASEBALL
Shane Juday, a standout on the diamond for Lansing Community College Baseball, has been tabbed the 2023 Dick Shilts Male Student-Athlete of the Year following a vote by the association's leadership. Now in its third year, the Dick Shilts Award annually recognizes one female and one male student-athlete from the MCCAA who excels in their sport, in the classroom and in co-curricular activities.
Juday recently capped off a remarkable career at Lansing CC by helping lead the Stars to the NJCAA DII World Series Semifinals and a third place national finish. The sophomore infielder helped pace the Stars' historic season with a slash line of .410/.496/.700 behind an 86-hit campaign that included 11 home runs, 24 doubles, 69 runs scored and 78 RBIs across 62 games.
Juday's 24 doubles led the MCCAA, while his 11 home runs, 86 hits and 78 RBIs all ranked second in the association. The .700 slugging percentage was good for third across the MCCAA while his .410 batting average ranked sixth overall.
The big 2023 campaign earned Juday MCCAA Western Conference Player of the Year honors to go along with spots on the All-NJCAA Region XII, All-MCCAA and First Team All-Conference Teams for the second time in as many seasons.
In the classroom, Juday posted a 3.93 GPA while majoring in Architecture Technology and, in the community, the Lansing CC standout has remained an active volunteer with the KCS Angels—a registered Non-Profit 501(c)(3) grass roots organization that is dedicated to bringing fun and acceptance to anyone with and without special needs. Juday has also provided field work for local youth baseball teams and has volunteered with Salvation Army holiday bell ringing campaigns.
Dick Shilts was a longtime Athletic Director at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and was longest serving MCCAA President in association history. During his time in MCCAA leadership, Shilts championed the MCCAA's individual academic awards and helped lead a host of other initiatives across the association.
