2024 DICK SHILTS FEMALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
ALLISON VOGT, MACOMB COMMUNITY COLLEGE, SOFTBALL

Allison Vogt, a standout player for the softball team at Macomb Community College, has been honored with the prestigious title of the 2024 Dick Shilts Female Student-Athlete of the Year. This accolade, determined by the association's leadership through a vote, recognizes outstanding achievements both on and off the competition surface. Established four years ago, the Dick Shilts Award celebrates the exceptional accomplishments of student-athletes within the MCCAA who demonstrate excellence in athletics, academics, and co-curricular endeavors.

Vogt's remarkable athletic prowess is evidenced by her impressive statistics on and off the field. This season, Vogt posted a 15-5 record with a 2.85 earned run average and helped lead Macomb to the program's first NJCAA Division II World Series berth in nearly a decade. For her efforts, Vogt was named Great Lakes District A Tournament MVP and earned the following postseason honors: All-Region, All-MCCAA and MCCAA Eastern Conference First Team All-Conference.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Vogt has excelled in the academic realm, maintaining a 3.80 grade point average in a challenging major and receiving several academic honors, including nods on the NJCAA All-Academic Team, while being named Academic All-MCCAA and Academic All-Conference.

Vogt's dedication extends beyond the confines of the classroom and the softball field. Actively involved in her community, Vogt has contributed her time and efforts to various initiatives, including but not limited to working within an outreach program for high school students through Macomb's Physical Therapist Assistant program and serving as a volunteer judge for HOSA (future health care professionals organization). Through the outreach program, Vogt presented about the physical therapy program and helped set up stations to give high school students an introduction to the field, what going into physical therapy school would look like and how to make physical therapy fun for patients. On top of her co-cirricular endeavors, Vogt is well-known for her great sportsmanship and being an exceptional teammate.

The Dick Shilts Award honors the legacy of Dick Shilts, a revered figure who served as the Athletic Director at Kalamazoo Valley Community College for many years and held the distinction of being the longest-serving MCCAA President in association history. Throughout his tenure, Shilts advocated for the recognition of individual academic achievements within the MCCAA and spearheaded various initiatives to enhance the association's mission and impact.
