Basketball kicks off in earnest on Friday with different conference alignments, shortened season

The MCCAA basketball season will start of Friday with a new format for the shortened 2021 season. In men's basketball each team is scheduled for 13 games, while in women's basketball some are scheduled for 13, some for 12 and some for 11, due to Henry Ford College not having women's basketball season this year.

Due to the fact that five schools have opted out of the season, the 14 remaining teams have been organized into three conference for this season only. The Western Conference contains Ancilla College, Glen Oaks Community College, Grand Rapids Community College and Muskegon Community College. The Northern Conference has Alpena Community College, Delta College, Mott Community College and St. Clair County Community College. The Metro Conference is comprised of Henry Ford College, Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, Schoolcraft College and Wayne County Community College District. Teams in each conference will play each other twice, those six or eight games will determine the conference champion and post season seeding. Teams will also play five or seven crossover games to fill out the schedule to 13 games.

The post season will feature five mini tournaments the will get five winners to go with the OCCAC representative to play on Saturday, April 10th to get the three qualifiers for the NJCAA Nationals Championship. The first four tournaments feature a team from each of the North, Metro and West. The final tournament features 2nd place West versus 2nd place Metro.

Finally, the MCCAA is not allowing fans at any indoor events for the foreseeable future.
