Muskegon CC wins inaugural MCCAA Dual Championship

The Muskegon Community College wrestling team claimed the inaugural MCCAA Dual Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Jayhawks went 3-0 in the round robin competition to claim the MCCAA team title for the second year in a row. They have won three of the four team championships since wrestling was reinstated as a MCCAA sport. They have won 11 MCCAA championships dating back to the 1969-70 season.

Muskegon opened the championship with a 48-3 win over Ancilla College. In the second round, they defeated St. Clair County CC 45-3 and Mott CC 46-6 in the final match of the Day. Coach Mark Brunger was named MCCAA Coach of the Year for leading the Jayhawks to the title.

St. Clair County CC finished second with a 2-1 record beating Mott CC (27-20) and Ancilla College (36-18). Mott CC finished third with a 1-2 mark as they defeated fouth place Ancilla College (25-24). Henry Ford College did not participate due to health and safety protocols.

This the first team the team champion has been crowned in this manner. The previous three season, since the sports return, the team champion was crowned by the number of points a team accumulated during the individual championship.
