Jackson's Kaelin Pond, SC4's Sophia Santo Highlight MCCAA Bowling Awards

WARREN, Mich.--The Michigan Community College Athletic Association has announced the MCCAA women's bowling awards for the Eastern and Western conferences during the 2023-24 season. St. Clair County Community College's Sophia Santo swept the major awards in the east while Kaelin Pond of West champion Jackson College did the same in her conference.

Eastern
Team Champion: Mid Michigan College
Bowler of the Year: Sophia Santo- St. Clair County Community College
Freshman Bowler of the Year: Sophia Santo- St. Clair County Community College
 
The Mid Michigan Lakers coached by Ryan Harkrader earned the team crown after securing 25 points in each of the four events to score 100 points and first place in the MCCAA standings. They were followed by Schoolcraft College with 84, St. Clair County Community College had 72, Kirtland Community College totaled 60, and Wayne County Community College, 12.
 
Santo, a Marysville High School graduate, took top billing for both bowler and freshman of the year. She was a two-time MCCAA Eastern Conference Women's Bowler of the week recipient. For the season, she led the East with 2053 total pins knocked down for a 171.0 average. She beat her west counterparts in each of the first two events with a 537 and 543.
 
Western
Team Champion: Jackson College
Bowler of the Year: Kaelin Pond- Jackson College
Freshman Bowler of the Year: Kaelin Pond- Jackson College
 
The Jets swept the team, bowler of the year and freshman of the year accolades. With four first-place finishes and 100 points, Jackson College beat out Kellogg Community College (78), Montcalm Community College (75), Marian University Ancilla (63) and Muskegon Community College (48). Steve Sears is the Jackson head coach.
 
Individually, Michigan Center High School graduate Kaelin Pond swept bowler and freshman of the year honors for the Jets. She led the West with 2019 total pins for a 168.0 average. She debuted with a 476 and rolled a 534 in her next outing.
