Muskegon CC claims third MCCAA Softball title with 5-4 win over Oakland CC

Hayden Ruel's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth broke a 4-4 tie to propel Muskegon Community College to a 5-4 in the MCCAA Championship game. This is the Jayhawks third MCCAA softball championship. last year they were co-champions as there was no title game due to COVID.

Muskegon jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings. In the first inning, Kendyll Bond ripped a single through the left side scoring Kennadi Dykstra and Annika Roersma. In the second inning, Ruel blasted a 2 run home run to left field scoring MaKayla Thompson to give Muskegon a 4-0 lead. 

In the fourth inning Oakland's Emily Meyer scored on a throwing error after an Arianna Harden single. Then, Liz Fritz drove in Alicia McConnell with a single through the right side to make the score 4-2 Jayhawks after four innings. 

In the fifth inning, Emily Meyer hit a two run homer to left field scoring Sammy Michael ahead of her to tie the score after five innings. 

Ruel broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with her double. Michael lead off the 7th with a double down the right field line. Emily Field pinch ran and moved to third on a Field's ground out to first. Field was then picked off third to end the threat. The game ended when McConnell stuck out swinging. 

Ruel led Muskegon going three for three with a walk, two runs scored, three RBI, a double and a home run. MaKayla Thompson picked up the win, going seven innings, allowing 11 hits, four runs, three earned, one walk and nine strike outs. Claudia Feldpausch took the loss for the Raiders.
