Kellogg CC forces second championship game with 8-6 win over Lansing CC

The fifth ranked Kellogg Community College baseball team forced a second championship game on Saturday with a come from behind 8-6 win over eighth ranked Lansing CC. The Bruins opened the scoring in the top of the second when R.J. Sherwood drove in Donvan Thompson with a double down the left field line. In the top of the fifth Tate Peterson extended the lead driving in Noah Warren and Robert Slusher with a single to left field. 

The Stars stormed back in the fifth inning with five runs to take a 5-3 lead. Blake McRae opened the scoring with a two-run home run to left field scoring Hunter Lay. Robert Cavin scored on a Chris Hege RBI hit by pitch. Peyton Mazzola drove a single down the left field line to score Noah Bright and Brendan Ham to cap the scoring for the inning. 

Kellogg retook the lead in the top of the seventh with a three-run outburst. Noah Warren scored on a Tate Peterson single through the right side of the infield. Jackson Kitchen then scored when Brett Stanley on a single between shortstop and third base. Thompson drove in Peterson on a single to left to score the third and final run of the inning. 

In the bottom the seventh Lansing tied the score when Shane Juday hit a sacrifice fly to center to score McRae. 

In the top of the ninth, Sherwood homer to right center scoring Stanley to give the Bruins a 8-6 win. Nathan Ross pitched the final three and two-thirds innings to pick up the win for the Bruins. Elijah Stark took the loss.
