Kellogg sets up rematch of last year's Region XII Championship with an 8-4 win over Grand Rapids CC

The fifth ranked Kellogg Community College baseball team is back in the Region XII Championship game after defeating Grand Rapids Community College 8-4 on Friday night in Adrian, MI. The Bruins scored two runs in the first inning on a Tate Peterson ground out and a Hiliaro DeLaPaz sacrifice fly. In the third inning, Kellogg double the lead to 4-0 on a Peterson two RBI single. 

Grand Rapids got one run back in the top of the fourth on a Zacarias Salinas RBI single. De La Paz's second sacrifice fly of the game got the run back in the bottom of the fifth. Salinas again cut into the lead with an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-2. 

However, in the bottom of the inning, Noah Warren's triple scored Rance Bryant. Warren then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2. Brent Stanley RBI ground out drove in Peterson to make it 8-4. Salinas then hit a two RBI double to close the lead to 8-4 in the top of the top of the eighth. 

Nathan Ross came in for the four out save for the Bruins. Sean Knorr went 7 and two thirds innings, allowing four hits, two runs, walking three and striking out four for the win. Peterson went two for four with a run scored and three RBIs. 

Salinas paced the Raiders going two for four with a double and all four of the Raiders' RBId. 

Kellogg will now face number eight Lansing CC at 10 AM on Saturday in the Regional Championship game. The Bruins need to beat the Stars twice to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Enid, OK. Game time has been moved up to 10 AM due to weather concerns. The game will be at Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI.
