After 38 Years wrestling returns as a MCCAA Sport

After a 38 year hiatus, the sport of wrestling is returning to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. The MCCAA last crowned a champion in 1980 when Muskegon Community College won their sixth straight title. The sport was dropped from the MCCAA when less than four schools sponsored the sport. With St. Clair County Community College adding wrestling that game the sport four sponsoring schools. Ancilla College, Henry Ford College and Muskegon Community College are the other three schools competing this year.

Wrestling becomes the MCCAA's 13 sponsored sport. It is the fourth sport added since 2011. Women's Soccer was added in 2011, while men's and women's bowling came back on board in the 2014-15 school year.

In the past three schools have claimed MCCAA wrestling titles. Muskegon CC leads the way with 8 titles, Grand Rapids Community College has three and Schoolcraft College has two. Muskegon Community College won a National title back in 1970.

The MCCAA Championship will be decided on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Muskegon Community College.
