Macomb CC claims MCCAA Women's Basketball Championship

The undefeated Macomb Community College women's basketball team defeated Muskegon CC 79-65 to claim the MCCAA Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday in Muskegon, MI. The Monarchs moved to 30-0, while Muskegon CC fall to 24-4. While Macomb lead most of the game, the game was close through the third quarter. At halftime, the Monarch lead 38-35 and led 56-51 at the end of the third quarter. Macomb outscored the Jayhawks 23-14 in the fourth stanza. 

Macomb Community College was led by Alicia Norman with 18 points, ten assists and seven rebounds, while Olivia Russell had 11 points, and 18 rebounds. Sami Klink chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. Muskegon was paced by Iyana Brown with 15 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, while Yasmine Colon added 14 points and eight rebounds. Tanae Hamer had 13 points, while Kacy Jeffries chipped in 11 points of the bench. 

The Championship was Macomb's second MCCAA Women's Basketball Championship in school history. The Monarchs are off until Thursday, when the play at 7:30 PM when they play in the NJCAA Great Lakes East District Women's Basketball Semi-Final at Grand Rapids Community College. Muskegon CC will also play again on Thursday at 3 PM in the NJCAA Great Lakes West District Women's Basketball Semi-Final at Grand Rapids Community College.
