Delta women's soccer team advances to the National Championship on penalty kicks

After a double overtime win on Thursday, Delta College women's soccer team had to go to penalty kicks to advance to the NJCAA Division III women's soccer national championship. The Pioneers won the penalty kicks 3-1 to move on in the tournament.

Nassau Community College scored first when Shonagh Cleary scored just 3:16 minutes into the match. Delta College tied the score nine minutes later when Rachel Hahn took the ball at the top of the box and shot the ball that hit the post and caromed into the net. The game stayed tied for the rest of regulation and both overtimes, forcing the game to a shoot out. The Pioneers had three goals in the shoot out, scored by Hunter Kukla, Ariana Irish and Lexi Blanchard. Up three to one, Delta goalie Molly Mantei made a huge save going to her right to make the save and send them to the championship. Mantei made six saves during the match.

The second ranked Pioneers will face top ranked Brookhaven College on Sunday at 12 PM in Dryden, NY for the NJCAA Division III National Championship.
