Lansing CC falls to top seed Pearl River CC in late night tilt

The Lansing Community College baseball team could not contain the top seeded Pearl River (MS) Community College's offense late last night in Enid, OK. The Stars fell 17-8 in a seven-inning run rule shortened game. The Wildcats rapped out 17 hits to go with the 17 runs. 

Lansing opened the scoring in the first inning when Payton Mazzola (Grandville, MI/Grandville) scored on a wild pitch. Pearl River answered in the bottom of the second with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Stars tied the game in the top of the third. Chris Hege (Lake Orion, MI/Lake Orion) blasted a home run, then Mazzola scored on an RBI double by Blake McRae (Armada, MI/Romeo). The Wildcats took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with three runs. The big blow was a Tate Parker two run home run.

Lansing cut the lead to 6-5 in the top of the fifth. Hege scored on a Hunter Lay (Chelsea, MI/Chelsea) ground out. Then Robert Cavin (Livonia, MI/Stevenson) drove in Mazzola. However in the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats added four runs of their own to increase their lead to 10-6. Lansing replied in the top of the sixth with three runs of their own. Shane Juday (Midland, MI/Dow) scored on a base loaded walk by Mazzola. Then Noah Bright (Macomb, MI/Henry Ford II) on a wild pitch. Hege closed out the Stars scoring by crossing the plate on a wild pitch. 

The Wildcats scored seven in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 17-6. The Stars went quietly in the seventh to end the game. 

Mazzola was two for two with three runs scored, two walks and an RBI, while Hege was also two for two with three runs scored, a walk and an RBI. Elijah Stark (3-2) took the loss in relief. 

Lansing CC (44-10) has a short turnaround as they face Florida State College-Jacksonville today at 2 PM Eastern Daylight Time in an elimination bracket game at David Allen Park in Enid, OK. The game time was moved up from the original scheduled time to try to beat rain that is in the forecast in Oklahoma.
