Kellogg CC wins third straight MCCAA baseball title

The Kellogg Community College baseball team own their third MCCAA title and fourth in five years with a 4-2 win over Lansing Community College on Wednesday night. The win gives the Bruins the top Michigan seed and second overall seed in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament that starts May 14 at Sports Force Park in Sandusky, OH. Kellogg went up 2-0 in the the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth. Lansing posted a two spot in the eighth inning but could not get closer. Mike Eddington took the win for the Bruins going four innings in relief allowing three hits and striking out four. Jacob Falzone picked up the save, pitching the ninth allowing a hit, a walk and fanning two batters. Manny Graza took the loss for the Stars. 

In the third/fourth seeding game, Jackson College got a run in the top of the ninth to come from behind to beat Kalamazoo Valley Community College 6-5. Jackson loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and score the run when Zac Capaldi was hit by a pitch to drive in the winning run. Justin Gelso picked up the win pitching the last two innings, allowing no hits, walking two and striking out three. Calpaldi was 2 for 4 with two RBI's in the game. 

In the fifth/sixth seeding game Mott Community College scored four runs with two out in the bottom of the ninth to claim a 6-5 walk off win. Mott scored the tying and winning run when Lake Michigan's shortstop made an error on Matt Wisker's ground ball to complete the comeback. The Bears were down to their last out with nobody on before they rallied the the four runs. Nolan Hamilton pitched four innings in relief to claim the victory. He two hits, one unearned run, two walks and a strikeout. 

All six teams advance to the NJCAA Region XII Division II Baseball Tournament May 14-17, 2019 at Sports Force Park in Sandusky, OH.
