Delta College win first ever Charlie Chanter MCCAA All-Sports Trophy Award

Delta College has claimed their first ever Charlie Chanter MCCAA All-Sports Trophy win. The Pioneers finished just 0.74 ahead of last year's champion Grand Rapids Community College. They claimed the MCCAA women's soccer title, the MCCAA North women's basketball championship and tied for the MCCAA North men's basketball championship. The golf team finished second in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. 

Behind Grand Rapids CC in third was Muskegon CC, who qualified 11 of their 13 teams for National Championships. St. Clair County CC was fourth and Mott CC rounded out the top five. 

The Charlie Chanter MCCAA All-Sports Trophy is awarded with the highest average of points for the school year. Teams are awarded 100 points for winning the conference or MCCAA championship, depending on the sports. Teams get few points as the finished farther down the standing on a proportional basis depending on the number of schools participating (i.e. if there are four teams, 1st gets 100, 2nd get 75, 3rd gets 50 and 4th gets 25). Teams that win the MCCAA Championship also get one bonus point for each team declaring the sport. Runner's up get a half point for every team declaring the sport. The total is then divided by the number of sports the school has. 

The award is named after long time MCCAA Executive Secretary Charlie Chanter, who held the position for 42 years and was a champion of the award. The award was first presented in 1958 and is present every year at the MCCAA summer meeting.
